His Last Words were, “I Am Mochel Everyone on Top of Me!” 

Rav Shmuel Tzvi Klagsbald, Zt”l 

A Kadosh amongst Kedoshim 

He Left an Almana and 8 Yesomim 

As Rav Shmuel Tzvi was breathing his last with hundreds on top of him, the last thing on his mind was that chas v’shalom, no one should sustain Divine punishment for extinguishing his life. A Yid lying next to him who survived, heard his last words, “I am mochel everyone on top of me!”  

That was Rav Shmuel Tzvi Klagsbald.
A Yid who lived an elevated existence that is beyond our comprehension.
A Yid who lived his life as a Kadosh and who died as a Kadosh! 

Rav Shmuel Tzvi Klagsbald, zt”l, was a unique oveid Hashem. At just 42 years old, he was known as one of the budding gaonim and tzaddikim who would illuminate the next generation. He was a Rosh Kollel and Maggid Shiur, who learned Torah for hours on end without stop.  

Every day he learned two sedarim of five hours each without getting up from his seat! Rav Shmuel Tzvi so loved Hashem’s Torah that interrupting his learning was akin to someone interrupting Shemoneh Esrei!

Originally from Antwerp, Rav Shmuel Tzvi learned in Gateshead and, after his kollel years, went on to serve as a maggid shiur and rosh kollel in the Rachmastrivka Kehilla of Yerushalayim.  

Perhaps most of all he was a mentch, a paragon of true middos tovos and yiras shomayim. He was a dedicated husband and a loving father, full of simchas hanefesh, who was completely involved in the lives of each of his eight children.  

His devoted wife, who now must raise their eight children alone, related, “I knew that he was one of the tzaddikei hador! I saw with my own eyes how his tefillos and havtachos wrought miraculous yeshuos.”  

Rav Shmuel Tzvi was a mushlam who achieved complete harmony in his bein adam l’Makom and bein Adam l’chaveiro. Now, his family must somehow manage… alone, without their anchor.
