Yankie Taught us how to do TRUE CHESED!

Misaskim, the world-famous organization founded by Yankie Meyer, should require no depiction or write-up. Everyone knows and understands the true chesed that simply appears whenever a Yiddishe neshama departs this world. What is less known is the endless breadth of what Yankie’s legacy of chesed resourcefulness that has permanently changed the landscape of Klal Yisrael.

One of the many programs that Yankie undertook was the launch of Project Yedid. The goal was and is to provide support for almanos and yesomim, specifically, after the end of shivah and for years to come. Project Yedid is the largest percentage of Misaskim’s annual expenses. Project Yedid hosts Chol Hamoed outings for hundreds of yesomim, delivers Yom Tov packages, and even sends yesomim to summer camp. One of his personal favorite undertakings was what he referred to as “gebentshte gelt,” Chanukah gelt for yesomim — dollar-bills bearing brachos from gedolim in Eretz Yisrael. Yankie would take the dollar bills to Eretz Yisrael personally to ensure the success of even the slightest detail.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Yesomim geared up for the new school year with Project Yedid's School Supplies Fund. Each yosom was outfitted with the latest school gear eliminating another task from the mother's list and putting a spring in the children' s step.

YOM TOV PRESENTS

Simchas Yom Tov was enhanced with Project Yedid's hand-delivered gift boxes filled with toys and games for the entire family.

PAPER GOODS

To assist almanos with the day-to-day basics, Project Yedid delivered cases of disposable paper goods and cutlery throughout the year before Yom Tov.

CHOL HAMOED SUKKOS

Project Yedid organized a highly anticipated grand carnival with activity booths and an extravagant Simchas Beis Hashoevah. A fully catered gourmet meal was provided and the yesomim were able to experience a true Simchas Yom Tov.

CHANUKAH

Each yosom received a personalized Chanukah gift package from the Project Yedid family, filled with dollar bills that were exclusively benched by Gedolim around the world, $50 spending money, and fabulous gifts.

Each child was able to light their menorah with a special joy in their heart.

PURIM

Purim is very hard to celebrate when someone's alone. But with Project Yedid's Purim Seudah program, almanos hosted their families and friends, without having to be anyone’s guest. From gourmet food to drinks, and tableware to decor, Project Yedid delivered it all, allowing almanos to spend their day with those who matter most.

CHOL HAMOED PESACH

At a time when families spend time together, the agony strikes so much more. Project Yedid helped ease the pain and arranged a fun and highly entertaining trip of the year enjoyed by boys and girls of all ages.

SHAVUOS

To enhance their simchas yom tov, each almana received a package for her and her family. Replete with a beautiful flower bouquet, cheesecakes, delicacies, and a variety of goodies, the families celebrated Yom Tov in true sweetness and delight.

CAMP PACKAGES & FUND

An escape, a safe haven, this is what sleep-away camp is to yesomim. But along with the serenity and happy smiles comes an expensive price tag that many almanos can’t afford. Project Yedid's Camp Fund provided assistance to help alleviate this financial burden. In addition, over 500 camp packages were delivered to yesomim attending sleep-away and day camps to help keep them smiling.

EREV SHABBOS/YOM TOV SETUPS

Erev Shabbos and Yom Tov can be a very busy and stressful time in a regular home. Now think about a home where aveilim are sitting shiva.

This past year, Project Yedid’s volunteers visited dozens of shiva homes on Erev Shabbos and Yom Tov and removed the shiva furniture, reconfiguring the house to help change the mood and restore calmness and serenity l'kavod Shabbos. In certain situations, volunteers also delivered full Shabbos and Yom Tov meals to these homes. When necessary, the volunteers returned on Motzoei Shabbos to restore the shiva furniture for the remainder of the shiva week.

Project Yedid launched new projects this past year that were outside the scope of their regular activities yet filled a necessary void.

SIMCHOS & EMERGENCIES

With no breadwinner in the house, a simcha can be overwhelming and almost impossible to bring to life; unforeseen circumstances can be costly and staggering. Project Yedid aims to assist during those times. Whether it’s raising funds for a simcha or dealing with an unexpected cost, Project Yedid is there to help them get through with dignity & happiness.
