The Shiloni Project, in partnership with the Resnick Fund, is a grassroots volunteer group that supports army units in southern Israel and individuals displaced from their homes and currently residing in the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv areas. Our core principle revolves around tending to both their physical and emotional well-being. We establish personal connections with those we aid, ensuring they receive precisely what they require without any excess. Your generous support helps contribute to sustaining our efforts.
The Shiloni Project started as a handful of moms who couldn't bear sitting at home any longer in the days after Oct 7th. We needed to act. At first, just to save our own sanity – and then to find our own hearts. Finally, to reclaim other hearts.
Each day, we receive specific requests from soldiers in the south, from mothers displaced from their homes, and from grieving families: a walking cane for a senior, a new set of clothing for displaced children, a care package for a newborn, an Xbox for an autistic boy who left his behind, medicines, running shoes. The list goes on and on.
Each request gets sourced and fulfilled the same day by our army of volunteers, beautifully gift-wrapped with a loving note, personally hand-delivered by another volunteer. We give new things or like-new things, the kind that you or I would want to receive to feel human again. Our approach is deeply personal. While numerous volunteers are involved in obtaining the items, there's a single point of contact in each hotel who hands the package to the recipient, receives new requests and reaches out to those in need. The recipients are regular folks like us. They find themselves in unimaginably tough circumstances, and our mission is to treat them with the utmost care and respect, providing for them with dignity every step of the way.
Near the front lines, we're working closely with units stationed in the south, at the place where soldiers begin and end their demanding days. Our goal is to make sure soldiers are fed with hearty, healthy kosher meals. The meals are lovingly prepared by a dedicated caterer in Jerusalem who pours their heart and soul into every dish, made at production cost with help from volunteers. Through a chain of compassion, our volunteers personally drive to the south with carloads full of care and hot meals. We also get personal requests from soldiers: replacing broken eyeglasses or buying new boots for a soldier whose own had been ruined carrying people from burning fields.
As the second week of the war unfolds, we are faced with new needs: supporting the grieving families. It's an incredibly tough task, but we're there for them too. We provide meals per request to help with shivah and yahrzeit gatherings.
In this heart-wrenching time, we're witnessing stories of solidarity and inner strength that inspire us all. With the enormous groundswell of support from our brothers and sisters worldwide, we feel the Jewish people rediscovering each other and remembering what we all stand for.
One touching message from a young mother stays with us: "It's tough being a mother in the area surrounding Gaza. I've found myself questioning why I brought my baby into this world. Then I received your care package, read your note, and recalled exactly why I'm here – the caring, the connection, the empathy. Thank you for reminding me."
Please nurture our efforts. Each contribution goes to a recipient in need, nothing goes to waste, and each item is delivered with a warm and caring touch.
